First green hydrogen project to be developed in Mongolia

Elixir Energy signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Mongolia Green Finance Corporate to support the financing of its Mongolian-based green hydrogen project Gobi H2.

The company has also submitted a detailed analysis of the legal issues surrounding a potential green hydrogen project in Mongolia to the Ministry of Energy, which states that no new major legislation is needed for the development of green hydrogen projects in the country.

Under the MoU, the parties will identify Mongolian carbon offset opportunities at the household level; develop larger-scale forestry/nature-related offsets in Mongolia; work with International Financial Institutions (IFIs) over the project.

Elixir Energy Limited is an ASX listed gas exploration and development company. It is focused on exploring Mongolia for natural gas in the form of coal-bed methane. EXR holds 100% of a CBM production sharing contract (PSC), located just to the North of the Mongolian/Chinese border.

The company bagged the ‘Investor of the Year 2021’ award by Mongolia’s Minister of Mining and Heavy Industry, making it the second year in a row the company has been recognised for its efforts.
